Mammut Pulse : The revolutionary avalanche beacon Made in Switzerland.
NB There is new Firmware 3.2 software update for winter 2011/12, this is the most up to date version.

Now in it's 5th season, the Mammut Barryvox Pulse is now established as one of the world's two most advanced avalanche transceivers. The Mammut pulse was the first of a new generation of avalanche beacons to liscense W-Link technology -  Last season Arva also licensed the patented W-Link technology. The mammut Pulse and the Arva Link are arguably the worlds best avalanche transceivers. So what makes the Mammut Pulse and the Arva Link so much better than the competition ?

All avalanche transceivers work on an internationally agreed 457 KHz frequency allowing different makes of unit to communicate with other makes. Basic transceivers use only analogue or digital technology on this 457 KHz fequency, limiting their usefulness, the best transceivers use a mixture of analogue and digital technology. The amount of data that can be transmitted on this 457 KHz frequency is also limited so the best units are now licensing W-Link technology - currently Mammut and Arva are the only manufacturers licensed to use this technology, however it is that much of an improvement it is likely that other manufacturers will start using it to the future. W-Link transceivers communicate as normal with other tarnsceivers using the standard 457 KHz frequency but they also broadcast on a seperate 869 MHz frequency at the same time for inter-beacon communication. Compatible beacons can send digital information over this secondary frequency increasing the speed at which data is updated between the units, saving valuble time, increasing accuracy, improving search times, increasing a victims chance of survival. The Link and the Pulse are fully compatible with each other, sending and receiving vital data such as your heart rate. Both units will function and interact as standard avalanche transceivers when used in conjunction with other makes of transceiver that do not have this technology.

The unit gives real time distance and direction information in order to home in quickly during the initial search phase. The final search phase is much quicker due to the addition of an internal compass which directs the searcher in a straight line to the burried victim rather than following the sweeping arc of one of the magnetic flux lines. For advanced and professional users, it's also easy to switch to analogue mode for complex search situations, where signal sensitivity can be fully adjusted and earphones used if desired. With multiple burials, users can mark the first buried victim and go easily to the next closest buried victim. The unit provides an estimate of the number of buried victims (1, 2, or multiple victims).
