The Mammut Element is a new avalanche transceiver developed as a lower cost alternative to Mammut's awards winning Barryvox Pulse. The Mammut Element has a similar casing to the Pulse but the technology inside is very different.

To reduce the overall cost of the unit, the Mammut Element broardcasts on a pure digital signal instead of the dual annalogue/digital signals used by the best transceivers. The Element has no internal compass to direct the rescuer in a straight line to the burried victim. Instead it functions like a traditional transceiver guiding the rescuer along flux lines. The pure digital signal and flux line search technology is very similar to that used in other basic models of avalanche transceiver such as the Backcountry Access(B.C.A) Tracker 2. Like the B.C.A tracker 2, the Mammut Element is not as fast at searching out burried victims as the mammut Pulse and the Arva Link which are arguably the best avalanche transceivers available but with practice and training they are both still very efficient units compared to older style avalanche transceivers.
The Mammut Element has three antennas, this reduces the problem of signal spikes associated with deep burrials, something the older style dual antenna units used to suffer from. Like all modern avalanche beacons, the Mammut Element has a distance indicator and directional arrow to make searches easier. The Element also copes with a range of rescue senarios including single and multiple burrials.
