Delivery Information

Delivery costs are charged according to the total packed weight of your order and will be calculated automatically once you choose a product and select your delivery option on the shopping cart page.  Our delivery rates are summarised below. Please also read the accompanying notes for each delivery option.

All Deliveries must be signed for!   We send all orders by Courier or Royal Mail Special Delivery, so you need to choose an address where the goods can be signed for.  We also recommend you provide a daytime telephone number that we can pass on to the courier, so they can contact you and make arrangements in case of difficulties with delivery - as if the courier cannot deliver and the goods are returned to us, you will be liable to pay for the return charges as well as redelivery cost.

Dispatch Times   For in stock items, all orders placed before 12 o'clock on a working day (ie Mon - Fri) will be dispatched the same day (except for skis mounted with bindings, as we need to discuss your boot model + size with you first before mounting the bindings).  Orders placed outside these times will be dispatched the next working day.

UK Express Delivery (1-3 Days)   This is our standard service for all areas of the UK Mainland, except the Scottish Highlands*.  Over 80% of deliveries actually arrive the next working day. Parcels up to 2kg are sent by either Royal Mail Recorded Delivery or Courier.  All items heavier than 2kg are sent by Courier. All deliveries need signing for - if Royal Mail cannot deliver, the item will be returned to your nearest sorting office where you can either collect it or arrange for redelivery the next day.  If our Courier cannot deliver, the item will be returned to their nearest depot where you can either collect it or arrange for redelivery the next day.

*Scottish Highlands Deliveries  If you live north of Stirling, Perth or Aberdeen then our UK Highlands and Islands delivery rates apply (even if you have an Aberdeen post code).  If you live somewhere close to this line, then ring us with your postcode so we can let you know which delivery option to select.

UK Highlands and Islands (2-5 Days)   This is our standard service for deliveries to the Scottish Highlands and Islands, the Isle of Man, Channel Islands and Northern Ireland.  The majority of deliveries arrive within 2 working days.  Smaller items are sent by Royal Mail Special delivery, larger items are delivered by Parcelforce or Businesspost courier. All deliveries need signing for (see our delivery notes above). 

UK Guaranteed Next Day (next working day)   For urgent items we offer a guaranteed next working day delivery service to the UK Mainland (except Scottish Highlands). All orders must be placed before 12 o'clock in order to guarantee same day dispatch. Standard 'Working Days' are Monday to Friday. Saturday deliveries are available for packages up to 2kg via Royal Mail Special Delivery - we can arrange Saturday delivery for heavier items, but you need to ring us to arrange this service as non standard delivery rates apply. All deliveries need signing for (see our delivery notes above). 

BFPO Deliveries Most items, apart from skis, can be delivered via the BFPO system. BFPO addresses outside the EU are eligible for VAT free sales. Some BFPO addresses within the EU are eligible for Vat free sales - please ask your unit for advice. To receive VAT refund under B.F.P.O. status, please enclose a confirmation of VAT exemption form with each order. To make a VAT exempt BFPO order, follow the instructions below:

1    Select the items you wish to purchase.

2  At the shopping cart page, select Delivery Method: BFPO and the Country of Delivery - 'Afganistan' for all BFPO VAT exempt orders (regardless of delivery location). Our system then automatically calculates the delivery cost to the BFPO Depot and deducts 17.5% VAT from all items except maps and books, which are not charged VAT to begin with.

3    Then send an email to enquiries@backcountryuk.com stating your name, order details and that a Vat Exemption Form will follow.

4    Finally, Fax us a copy of your VAT exemption form signed by your CO (our Fax No is +44 (0)1943 817783. Click Here to download a sample BFPO VAT exemption form (word doc) which can be completed or ammended as appropriate by your CO.

We can only dispatch your order once we have received the form. Deliveries to the BFPO Mill Hill depot depot take 1-3 working days - after that, standard BFPO times apply for forwarding on to your BFPO address. 

Deliveries to Europe (3-6 Days)   For deliveries to countries within the EU, standard UK sales tax applies (all of our prices include 17.5% sales tax, except books and maps which are not taxed).  For deliveries to countries outside the EU, you will not be charged UK sales tax - which amounts to a saving of around 15% on our standard prices (local import taxes may still need to be paid).

If you then wish to order, just phone us with your credit card details to pay for the delivery costs (which are paid for seperately) then place your order online. On the shopping cart page, simply select the delivery method: Europe and your Country of Delivery - our system automatically deducts any sales tax for non EU deliveries (your stated country of delivery must match the country given on your delivery address or we cannot dispatch your order).

Deliveries to USA and Canada (3-7 Days)  For deliveries to the USA and Canada, you will not be charged UK sales tax - which amounts to a saving of around 15% on our standard prices (local import taxes may still need to be paid).

If you then wish to order, just phone us with your credit card details to pay for the delivery costs (which are paid for seperately) then place your order online. On the shopping cart page, simply select the delivery method: USA & Canada and your Country of Delivery - our system automatically deducts any sales tax (ie -17.5% on all items, except maps and books which are not taxed). Your stated country of delivery must match the country given on your delivery address or we cannot dispatch your order.

Import Duties - few customers report import duties actually being charged - but if you are, then for Canada this may amount to a 7% duty and for the USA, between 2.5-3.5% depending on the product.

Deliveries to the Far East & Southern Hemisphere (3-7 Days)  For deliveries to countries outside the EU, you will not be charged UK sales tax - which amounts to a saving of around 15% on our standard prices (local import taxes may still need to be paid).

Import Duties - You will be liable to pay any import duties charged, so we advise you to check with your local customs office for information.  For example: in Australia most imports will incur 12% duty, whereas for New Zealand there is generally no charge for imports valued at under $NZ 400, but 12.5% is levied on consignments above this value
