The Garmont Radium G-fit is a 4 buckle Ski Mountaineering boot. One of the stiffest Ski Mountaineering boots available, the Garmont Radium G-fit is constructed from Pebax nylon and has an AT flex rating of 130. A powerful boot, Garmont aim the Radium at aggressive skiers wanting more support and skiing performance in a Ski touring boot. The Garmont Radium is suitable for a mix of Ski Mountaineering, Free Riding and occasional piste use. Like most of the Garmont Ski Mountaineering boots, the Radium has a low volume toe box and can be tricky to fit. If you have the correct shape and volume fit foot for the Radium, it is an excellent boot and will perform well. We regularly have to strech the toe box on this boot which is not easy and quite labour intensive. For this reason we are charging an additional £20.00 to strech the toe boxes this season which is half the cost of what is being charged in the Chamonix valley.
For Ski Mountaineering The Garmont Radium G-fit is one of the stiffest Ski mountaineering boots available and tends to suit more aggressive, powerful skiers that can flex the cuff of the boot. Lighter build, less powerful skiers can find the stiffness of the Radium a disadvantage. That said if you are a powerful enough skier and want one boot to do everything, the radium is an excellent boot. Suitable for a mix of Ski Mountaineering, Free Riding and occasional piste use. The Garmont Radium works well in Fritschi bindings but is also compatible with Dynafit bindings.
For Free Ride/ Off Piste skiing. The Garmont Radium G-fit is first and foremost a Ski Mountaineering boot, it is however powerful enough for use as a Free Ride boot. Compared with Free Ride boots, the cuff of the Radium is slightly less aggressive and has a shallower forward lean angle, for most of us though this is not an issue. The Garmont Radium works well in Fritschi and Marker Free Ride bindings but are also compatible with the Dynafit binding system. Please be aware that Dynafit bindings are not reliable or durable enough for use as your one and only binding when doing several weeks a year of off Piste skiing, piste bashing and Ski Mountaineering.
