Predominantly designed for North American snow conditions, Black Diamond have tweaked and refined the flex on some of their skis last season. With a new flex, the BD Verdict is more appealing to European skiers.
The Verdict has a generous footprint, providing superb floatation in deep snow and loves making long radius turns in powder. We found the Birch/Poplar wood core snappy, spry, lively in feel and fun to ski. The verdict will plough through crud and chossy snow as well as it rips through powder. Torsionally stiff with a shallow side-cut, these skis grip well, holding an edge on steep icy terrain. Hit a groomed piste after an off-piste run and the Verdict provides stable, firm handling on hardpacked snow. The Verdict is less of an all-rounder than Black Diamond would have us all believe. The softer flex, shallow side-cut and long radius make this a better choice for off-piste use, so if you're looking for a ski that will carve tightly on the piste, this is probably not the ski for you.
For Free Ride/Off Piste skiing. The Black Diamond Verdict is a ski that loves soft snow off the piste. It has a long turn radius which combined with it's flex makes turning in powder effortless. This longer turn radius also makes the ski handle better in breakable crust. These skis suit adventurous Free Riders and off piste skiers wanting to spenfd 70-80% of their time off piste. The Black Diamond Verdict works well with Fritschi and Marker Free Ride bindings, they also work well with the basic Salomon binding or the more durable Dynastar/Look PX 12 Lifter bindings.
For Ski Mountaineering. The Black Diamond Verdict is too wide for use as a general Ski Mountaineering ski but will cope with the occassional day tour.
For Telemarking. The Black Diamond Verdict is a fun ski for both intermediate and advanced Telemarkers wanting a ski predominently for off piste skiing that will handle well for occassional piste skiing. The Black Diamond Verdict is best suited to Telemarkers wanting to spend 70-80% of their time off piste. The Venture works well with Rottafella NTN and Cobra R8 bindings. They also work well with 7 TM bindings, riser shims may be necessary.
For Resort/Alpine Piste skiing. The Black Diamond Verdict is a ski that tends to prefer soft snow off the piste. As such the Verdict is not suited to generalpiste skiing.
